My Current Beauty Favorites

Hey loves!

In the past year, I have really got into wearing makeup. I started watching a lot of youtube videos of how to put on makeup. I don’t think I ever realized how much of an art form makeup truly is until I started to learn how to do different techniques. The main brand of makeup that I wear is Bare Minerals. It’s the brand, my mom introduced me too and I have stuck with them ever since. I feel like this brand is highly underrated. Not many people know about this. Without forth more let’s jump into my current beauty favorites.

Bare Minerals Mascara

This mascara is probably hands down the best mascara I have ever used. Apart from Bobbi Brown’s mascara who also makes great mascara. This mascara brush is very petite and applies smoothly onto my lashes. The lengthy this mascara gives my lashes is bananas.

Bare Minerals Tinitng Gel

This is the only foundation type product that I have ever used on my face. The coverage is perfect for my skin because I don’t need a lot of coverage. What I like best is that this product has a built-in sunblock. I feel like this tinting gel is perfect for someone who is still getting acquainted with makeup or likes a more natural face.

Bare Minerals Eyeliner

The tip of this eyeliner is probably the crispest eyeliner I have used. The wings I have created with this eyeliner is sharper than an edge. My go-to eyeliner used to be Eyeko, but Bare Minerals is definitely giving them a run for their money.

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss

I haven’t ever really been a lipgloss wearer until now! I kid you not I wear this lipgloss more than I wear chapstick. It’s the perfect amount of gloss and shiny without being greasy looking. This product is always a go-to for me when I wear silver accessories.

Anastasia Brow Pomade

The only product I use to style my brows! Anastasia Brow Pomade is the bee’s knees. Nothing more to say, everyone, have used or heard about this product before. It’s extremely popular and well worth the money. Where you buy this product buy the clear brow gel as well!

Profusion Highlight

The highlight is the second foundation for me. You can never have too much glow! The highlight I have been using is profusion, a brand that is familiar popular and affordable. Their highlighters are very pigmented and worth the buy.

xoxo,

Asya

Spark Stem

Hey loves!

Where was I Monday?

img_0951

All Monday I was at a STEM Event hosted at Ciena. This event was called Spark Stem created by the National Stem Society to get girls ranging from eighth grade to twelfth grade interested in careers in stem. The jobs in the stem field are highly saturated with males. A lot of women want to be in those roles as well. Through the National Stem Society, the young women are shown that they as well as their male counterparts can be powerhouses.

img_0954

The kids are learning how to slice a fiber.

img_0955

More fiber slicing.

What is STEM?

For those who don’t know stem stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematical. Stem, in a nutshell, is all about coming up with a solution to a problem in the world. These stem innovators are always in the path of being the first, the most fearless, and the most innovate due to a passion to solve a problem.

img_0952

The kids are learning about hardware.

img_0956

What is Spark Stem?

Spark Stem is a curriculum created by the National Stem Society to groom the future minds of the youth (especially young women) that anything and everything is possible with hard work, passion, and hunger for change. This was the second year that I have spoke at this event. Recently graduating from high school and interacting with kids still in high school and seeing what their interest are is bananas!

img_0957

This was the game I created where I had the kids creating transportation and architecture out of noodles, marshmallows, tape, and string.

img_0959These kids are extremely sharp and well in tune with what it is to be on the cutting edge. During this event, there were many executives, corporations, and individuals that came to introduce what it is like to work in a stem career in this day in age.

img_0961

The machine I am pointing at is a Super Cooler Technologies machine supercooler.

Coca-Cola was one of the speakers at spark stem that introduced us all to this company named Super Cooler Technologies. Super Cooler Technologies is a new frontier for precision refrigeration and beverage supercooling. In simpler terms, this company has created a formula to instant turn beverages into slushies to enhance how beverages are being consumed. That’s enough about this company for now because I will have a whole post about them. Along with an interview I was fortunate enough to secure with the co-founder of the company.

img_0958

The is a picture with a Coca-Cola Representative standing to the left of me. The co-founder of Super Cooler on the right of me. The Women at Ciena leader in the cheetah print jacket. On the far end is the founder of the National Stem Society and the women who hosted this event. Oh, and she also happens to be my mother.

My Experience Selling My Yeezy’s on Goat

Hey loves!

What is Goat?

GOAT is a shoe app where sneakerheads and fashion enthusiast can buy and sell exclusive footwear. The great thing about GOAT is they have a team of specialist that authenticates the exclusive footwear that the consumers are purchasing so they know the merchandise is real.

How to Get Approved on Goat?

Getting approved to sell on GOAT was a process! I submitted to be a seller in middle of December and a month went by with no response from GOAT. In January I emailed GOAT and they told me I was in the queue waiting to be processed. Two weeks later GOAT sent me an email saying I would have to take more pictures of the Yeezy’s I was selling. Once I submitted my pictures I got an email back immediately and was expected to be a seller!

My Experience Selling My Yeezy’s on Goat

Selling my Yeezy’s on GOAT was very simple. Once GOAT pairs the shoe buyer and shoe seller together the show seller has three days to ship the shoes out to GOAT. GOAT emailed me the shipping label so I didn’t have to pay for shipping on the shoes. The next day I dropped the shoes off at a UPS store.

A couple hours after I dropped the shoes off I got an email from GOAT saying my shoes have shipped to GOAT to be verified. Two days later I received my payment from GOAT and was able to cash out my money or buy a pair of shoes. Selling this one pair of shoes my seller rating went up two points!

If you all are interested in more post about GOAT or other apps to buy and sell fashion related items on let me know in the comment section!

Self-love is Bae!

Hey loves!

How is the challenge going so far for you all that read my last post? I have even joined the challenge and it’s going pretty great for me, to be honest! If you have read the new issue of Spotlight then you will notice the title of this post looks familiar. These ladies are the brave souls that lent me their voices for the wellness. They got extremely candid about their journey to self-love and what self-love looks like to them.

img_0819-1

When I was younger I was bullied about everything. From how I dressed, if I wasn’t as pretty as other girls, or just people being ignorant. I had lost all self-confidence and self-love I had within myself and my family could tell. It wasn’t until my junior year of high school I had really begun to love myself. I started saying affirmations to myself in the morning or just going to church. I started not to care what people thought about me because it’s not there life to live nor am I ever going to see these people again. I remember one time where my friend Deja said to me “I like how you don’t care what people think of you and you’re carefree, I think that’s why I like being friends with you most”. That boosted my confidence because somebody actually saw something in me. It was refreshing to hear it from someone outside of my family. I had to learn that nobodies opinion matters unless you let it. People are going to talk and criticize all they want, it’s never going to stop. You just have to learn how to handle it. Once you get that self-love within you, I promise no one can ever tell you anything about yourself. Live in the moment. We’re humans we make mistakes, but learn from them. We’re never going to be perfect, so live life while you’re young and have fun. We only have this opportunity once.

img_0822-1

The majority of my adolescent years were spent in a deep depression; years of harming, starving, and hating myself. I was never one to call myself pretty, nor could I come to terms with who I really was. My inner voices always spoke, and they yelled their words of negativity. They would hiss in my ear, tell me that I wasn’t good enough. No one would love me. You can’t eat today because you’ll regret it tomorrow. I was engulfed in self-hatred and needed a way out. In the fall of 2017, I decided that suicide was my ticket to freedom. And, on the night of my attempt, I saw something I never expected to. A light at the end of my depression tunnel. I was admitted into a hospital. I received the help along with the medication I needed. I managed to silence the voices of unreason, to become the best version of myself. I managed to silence the voices of unreason, to become the best version of myself. I began to develop and grow; find out who I was as a person. I was able to start my first romantic relationship, pursue endeavors I enjoy, and hang out with friends without feeling guilty. I felt the feeling of happiness, an emotion I hadn’t experienced in years!I realized that I had finally accepted who I was the day I took a picture of myself and liked what I saw. I didn’t see a girl who was ashamed of her race, acne, or weight. I saw a girl, smiling because she didn’t die when she saw no other option. I saw a girl who was ready to start her life. A girl who was ready to start a new.

img_0820

To me, self-love is the ultimate gift you can give to yourself. Self-love is a gift so great you would not have to depend, rely upon, or burden anyone else to create you into a whole person.  Self-love is a gift so great to yourself, holds you accountable to deliver your very best self to you first. Then to others, you love, befriend, care for and most of all share your life with. Every young lady should go into any “ships” e.g. relationships, friendships, courtships, partnerships, internships and others with the firm consideration and confidence. I must be whole in self-love with myself so that I can show, share, and provide whole love to someone else. Self-Love = Ultimate Confidence from a higher power than ourselves. Consider, someone had to love you first for your existence that showed, shared and provided the ultimate sacrifice whether it’s a heavenly father Jesus Christ, your family, friends, or acquaintances which all equates to your makeup. Who are you? What makes you, you?

Let me share first, I am a strong, confident and focused multicultural women at first site appears to only be black (stop judging books by their cover) but underneath is the makeup of the daughter of King from heaven, roots of my ancesters, the DNA structure of my biological mother and father from the dust of this earth but the brains and brawn of the ultimate energy source Jesus Christ who spare my life every day I open my eyes, take a breath and begin my surrender prayer for another opportunity to fight for my eternal life. I am a leader in spirit, mind, and soul despite my earthly holdings, titles, material possessions, or money. I am worth more than your eyes see, and more than the average man spends in Benjamin’s. I am the wind beneath my own feet due to you will not see me coming with my creative moves and try to retreat when it’s too late. My heavenly father provides me armor, shield, and sword to slay all day in his name as I pray bad spirits away.

My favorite song is Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars. This song has helped me over so much during the past year. I have always been self-conscious about myself. I’ve always wanted to look like the other girls with pretty long hair and the skinny figure. I’ve always tried to dress like them, but it hurt my heart every time when I couldn’t fit into the clothes. It wasn’t until seventh grade when I realized this is who I am and that I needed to love myself. I decided to change to a healthier lifestyle. At first, I was headstrong about my diet and exercise. After I lost seven pounds the cookies and the chips started to haunt me. Sadly, I slipped back into my old ways and was worse than what I was before.

Before I knew it I was 200 pounds by the 11th grade. When I saw that number on the scale my heart shattered and tears started to roll down my cheeks. That’s when I knew I wasn’t eating because I was hungry. I was eating to drown my sorrow in not looking like everyone else. I sat down and began to draw a game plan of how I was going to reach my physical goals, spiritual goal, and mental goals.

I began to eat healthier and exercise. After losing the initial seven pounds I was motivated to keep going so I didn’t touch the chips and cookies. Day after day, week after week, I began to drop more and more weight. I was determined to reach my goals. I was determined to learn self-love and self-value. Before I knew it I had lost 52 pounds. To this day I sit and think if I hadn’t gone through my struggles I wouldn’t be where I am today. Healthy and Confident.

Woah! Thes ladies were so transparent with journey. It’s truly inspiring! For more of what was in the February issue of Spotlight click the cover below.

Spotlight February 2018: The Wellness Issue

Hey loves!

This issue of Spotlight was an all hands on deck issue. I had the help of family and friends to make this issue what is. This by far has to be my favorite issue of the Spotlight Magazine that has dropped. In issues to come, I think I will continue to have feature sections because there are topics that need to have a light shined on them. As I said before thanks to the testimonies shared by family and friends we need what self-love is through their eyes.

Click the Cover to See the New Issue

img_0869

Why is Self-love Important?

Self-love is a very important topic to me because that is how you show others to love you. We all exist in this world together for a reason. There is no reason imaginable why someone should feel they that are not capable of love nor capable of receiving. One of my quotes in life to live by is 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.

This verse has always I always stuck out to mean even before I was into reading Bible. Love is such a simple concept, but we insist on making it complicated. Love, for example, can be as simple as making dinner for someone. Or randomly paying for a stranger groceries. The step to love in my eyes is just being kind.

I want to challenge you all for the next couple of days to start appreciating yourself more. When you wake up in the morning tell yourself that you are enough, you’re a badass and you matter! I kid you not just little tiny things like that will change your complete outlook.

xoxo,

Asya

My Most Sentimental Piece of Clothing in My Wardrobe

Hey loves!

I read another blogger post yesterday where she talked about why we should shop in second-hand stores more often. She came to this conclusion after her house caught fire. Everything she and her husband worked hard for went up in a puff of smoke. After reading her post I started to think if my house caught fire and I could choose one piece of clothing to save what would I save?

My Most Sentimental Piece of Clothing in My Wardrobe

This question was pretty simple to answer since every clothing item I owned could be replaced expect one item. My prom dress. Last year I had prom and I went out of the box for my attire. My mom and I drove all the way into the city to this Indian dress shop where I got a custom saree made. This dress was like nothing I ever wore before. It was completely one of a kind and made just for me. This saree was a reminder to me how fast life is. This saree represented nostalgia for my adolescent days and my endless future possibilities at the same time. I will always remember this saree as my salute to high school and my grand entrance to the world of being a young adult.

If We Were Having Coffee

If we were having coffee, you would probably be at a Starbucks ordering a tall pike while I’m ordering a grande caramel frappuccino with no whip cream, no caramel drizzle, and extra ice. Since sweets have been a thing for us I’ll add a dark chocolate croissant for us to share.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you we don’t deserve you as a mother. Your actions day in and day out show us you would go to the ends of the Earth to protect and care for your children. No matter if we are acting like assholes you will still pick up the phone if we called you to help us out.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that you inspire me to be bolder in career choices. You tell me that the limits are non-existence. You tell us that we are meant to be extraordinary and you will not expect anything less of your kids.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that this illness you are facing is nothing but a test from the man above. He and I know the strength you possess. The scripture says he does not put challenges in the way that we cannot handle.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you the light your spirit gives off is blinding. Sometimes I find myself in awe of the things you have accomplished in such undesirable circumstances. You are the reason why I don’t take or give out excuses in life.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I love you so much. Even though sometimes I show that I am less than grateful for what you do that is not the case. In fact, it is the complete opposite.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I am glad to be your daughter because you have shown me what’s it like to be strong.

My Current Playlist

Hey loves!

I have been working on the new issue of Spotlight magazine and in the issue, I talk about music. Music is apart of my everyday routine and gets me going in the morning! This post is similar to a blog post I did about a month ago. That post got pretty good feedback, so I will start to make updates to my “Now Tunes” playlist to feature on Caution District. I update this playlist on a weekly to biweekly basis depending on the new music released and the type of mood I’m in.  With all that said let’s dive into the post.

Whose In My Playlist?

This playlist has a little bit of every genre. As you scroll through the list you will see Tasha Cobbs, Bruno Mars, Migos, and Temptations. This playlist transcendence all different decades to make a well rounded joyful experience. Some of the songs are in Spanish. As you all I have been trying to learn Spanish so I can become fluent. So far I about 25% fluent in Spanish from what the app Duolingo tells me.

Get to Know the Some of Songs & Artists

  1. Ultralight Beam by Kayne West: This song has been a favorite of mine for months now. I didn’t listen to Kayne’s Saint Pablo album. This song popped up on my shuffle when I was listening to music on my worship playlist. I had know idea that Kayne was into gospel music other than my favorite song by him Jesus Walk. The song Ultralight Beam is about Saul turned Apostle Paul being blinded by the presence of God. This song is about a journey of unconditional love, forgiveness, and redemption.
  2. Unforgettable by French Montana & Swae Lee: This song is catchy and easy to get into! It has a nice beat for my cool down routine. This song is not only a song that you can chill too, but the lyrics have a lot meaning to them. French Montana poured a lot of his past experiences of growing up in Morocco, Africa into the lyrics. Along with present day references of trying to manage the complications of life to make success unforgettable.
  3. Love by Matt White: This song is a nice feel good song. The sounds of the guitar are just therapeutic! This song makes love seem so easy and manageable to have, but in reality, it’s not that simple always. There is a lot of work and communication needed to make love work. Matt White is not someone I know very well as an artist, but this is song will always be on my main playlist as a favorite!

Tell me what you all think of my playlist and what’s your favorite song from the playlist in the comments!

xoxo,

Asya
