Unbanking Your Dough

Hey loves!

This is an article is from the newly released Spotlight July issue.

Unbanking Your Dough

The definition of unbanking stated by Investopedia says “Unbanked” is a slang term for adults who do not use banks or banking institutions in any capacity. Unbanked persons generally pay for things in cash or else purchase money orders. Unbanked persons also typically do not have insurance, pensions or any other type of professional money-related services”.

Even though the term ‘unbanked’ is fairly new the concept is not. Unbanking started after the crash of 1929 in my educated opinion. The banking industry was no longer secure. People lost their entire life’s savings and peace of mind. Ever since that period, people have been awoken to the fact that maybe the banks are not as supreme as they once believed. That belief led to runs on the bank and people keeping all their money on them. They stored the money in their mattresses, in the walls of their homes, and even sometimes in their backyards.

In this day in ago unbanking is very common in hindsight. We all do it whether we realize it or not. Maybe not to the extent as Investopedia mentioned. By using apps such as Qapital, Paypal, Venmo, and other finance apps you have become apart of the craze. Using those apps to store your savings, transfer funds to others, or to simply pay for your lifestyle has helped open a new wave of banking and thinking.

Finance apps like the ones you see to the right of this article are slowly increasing the unbanking mantra. Those apps are pushing to be the new banks in current society’s life. A lot of those apps even have cards similar to a debit card that they are offering their users. The cards are supposed to normalize the unbanking experience. The users get all the perks of having a bank without actually having a bank and the fees that come with it.

Last issue I talked a little bit about the app Qapital. I have been using this app for about three months now and I love it. This app has basically replaced savings account. I found using this app has helped me saved over 700 dollars since I started using it in late May. I highly recommend you to try this app. Qapital makes it very easy to save. It is extremely user-friendly. I liked the fact that I have to wait 1-2 business days to receive my funds. That waiting period helps to validate that the withdraw was intentional and not impulsive.

I hope this gave you something to think about when it can to your finances. Unbanking is a new way of banking that is still in the beginning stages and is far from disappearing anytime soon.

Spotlight July Issue Cover Interview

Hey loves!

Featured in the newly released July Spotlight issue is the Twitter handler UPbit Translator with 15k+ follower. I got to chat with the person behind the account and got insight into their journey through Bitcoin and where the future of Bitcoin is headed. This interview was really refreshing because it has allowed me to share information with my audience that is not in my genre. I hope you enjoy this interview. If you have any questions do not be afraid to comment!

Spotlight July Issue Cover Interview

Q: How did you get into Bitcoin?

A: Looking for new ways to make money through the internet I came across an article on Quora about the future of finance. I took a deeper look into the article and the mention of bitcoin was said several times. I did further research into what bitcoin was and how I could get into it. At the time bitcoin was about $600, ethereum was $20 and litecoin was $4. I didn’t successfully figure out how to get into the cryptos until bitcoin was about $1000. I made my first purchase through coinbase when I did further research.

Q: What made you start looking into investment opportunities?

A: Working a 9-5 gets exhausting so I spent weeks looking for new ways to make money. All I could find was E-commerce, YouTube, and other online “get rich schemes” which were already diluted with too many people. So I tried to find something new. When you are early to opportunities in the technology field you will benefit the most financially.

Q: I learned you are the creator behind UPbit translator what does that Twitter account do?

A: The UPbit translation account is an account I made for a Korean based bitcoin/altcoin exchange. I noticed that the Korean bitcoin/altcoin didn’t have a Twitter account. All there messages through the mobile app for trading was in Korean. I initially made the account to translate for the sake that I needed the information to make smarter trades. Then I would release the information on Twitter. I thought if I did a good enough job I could maybe work for UPbit as a social media manager or sell the Twitter account for bitcoin.

Q: What do you see your future in bitcoin like?

A: I’m not sure I can’t tell the future but bitcoin has been in an uptrend since the day it was made so I would hope to see bitcoin get into the six or seven figure range within the next 5-10 years.

Q: Do you recommend others to invest in bitcoin?

A: At the moment I don’t recommend investing for the average person. The market is currently in a correction phase from the Bitcoin high of 20k in 2017. For more experienced people I would try to buy now around what influencers suspect to be the bottom of Bitcoin around 6k. This is a good time to buy alts because they usually go 3% compared to bitcoins every 1%. My advice if you’re thinking about investing is to always invest what you would be okay with losing if the investment did not go in your favor. I would recommend once Bitcoin successfully gets past the resistance of 10k then that will be a clear indicator to buy alts or Bitcoin because the majority of the investment community can’t handle the volatility of Bitcoin.

Spotlight July 2018: Rebel Heart

Hey loves!

This issue of Spotlight was another collaboration that has been successful! I have learned a lot from the financial influencer behind the Twitter account for Upbit Translator. This issue was extremely important to me. I know finance can be a touchy subject as well as some of the articles featured in this issue. I wanted this issue to be all about the rebel hearts out there that are taking huge risks and making moves some of us would never take. In this issue, I wanted to challenge traditional thinking when it comes to transportation, banking and even investing. I hope you all enjoy this issue. I had a blast putting it together!

Why The Supreme Court’s Decision Isn’t Surprising

Hey loves!

We all know that America has an infamous past when it comes to anyone or anything entering this nation including contrasting middle America’s view on what this country is suppose to look like. Like middle America, the lineage of leaders for America have often turned a blind eye and sometimes even participated in the wrongdoings to minorities. This travel ban concept that 45 has implemented is far from an original idea. Unfortunately, he is not the first chief executive to deny entry into this country to a select group of individuals. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane to enlighten and refresh some forgotten memories…

President Arthur 1882: Chinese Exclusion Act

In 1882 Congress passed an act that banned Chinese immigration to America. This act was put into place because the United States thought of the Chinese as a threat. The act was intended to last for 10 years but was renewed in 1892. That act remained in place for over 60 years.

Passed by Congress opposed President Truman 1950: The Internal Security Act of 1950

Congress passed this act on August 23, 1950, which made it possible to deport any immigrants believed to be affiliated with the communist party. President at the time Harry Truman stated his opposition to this act saying that it would make a mockery of our Bill of Rights. In 1993 some sections of the act were ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, however, some parts of the act still remain today.

President Jimmy Carter: Iranian Hostage Crisis 1980

After the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979 where 52 Americas were held, hostage for 444 days. President Carter cut diplomatic relations with and imposed sanctions on Iran. After that he banned Iranians.

These are not all the cases in American history of bans from immigrants. To learn more about this topic, please do your research to educate yourself.

Avoid Energy Vampires Like The Plague

Hey loves!

There’s one major topic that I almost forgot to address in the ‘How To Be A Dreamer’ series and that is the soul-sucking Energy VAMPIRES! The term energy vampire is a phrase I came across when reading The Enegry Bus by Jon Gordon. By definition, an energy vampire is a negative individual who speaks death into your life.  Those individuals stated Gordon “suck the life out of you and your goals and vision if you let them.  They will cause an engine leak, make your ride miserable or even worse slash your tires.” (page 73)

img_4053

A few weeks ago, I had a phone call meeting with three “online influencers” that were trying to pitch me for their network marketing company. About five minutes into the conversation I knew what they were selling was not the route I wanted to go. Once they started to see that I wasn’t going for what they were pitching the lead guy started to insult the work I had been doing on my blog and online magazine Spotlight. After the meeting was over I was completely depleted of all my energy. I was so drained that had to go to sleep in order to regain some piece of mind.  Even after the nap, I took I still felt drained. If I am being honest with you I wasn’t completely energized until two weeks after the conversation. Which is cringey because NO ONE should ever have that type of effect of your emotions, behavior, or mind.

The whole experience reminded me of one of my favorite movie scenes of the Pursuit of Happiness. I know I reference this scene a lot because it is powerful!

Many people will try to shrink you and your vision if they can not comprehend it. I am here to tell you to push through because it only takes one viral moment, one person will a following to notice you, or even a stranger off the street for your passion to become your lifestyle.

3 Lessons that I learned from that experience

  1. Don’t let someone talk down your dreams or accomplishments just because you don’t aline with their views.
  2. Be careful who you engage with on the internet. Just because someone has a bunch of followers doesn’t mean they are credible or legitimate.
  3. Continue hustling and grinding it out no matter what someone is offering you. Don’t sell yourself for a quick buck!

Asya Alert: Why It’s Okay To Take Breaks

Hey loves!

I have taken another nine-day hiatus from Caution District. In my absence, I have been working on the new July issue of Spotlight and planning out my next moves in my personal life. I have a lot of aspects shifting in my personal life right now that I am trying to adapt too. In this state of transitions, it really has taken a toll on my creativity and mindset. Since I can not change the environment I am enduring the only thing I can do is change my outlook on the situation.

Why It’s Okay To Take Breaks

I have often tried to stick to a schedule of posting a certain amount of content on all my social platforms. Like an unkempt car, I would be on the GO GO GO and not take time for ”maintenance check-ups”. What I mean is checking on my state of being. My mental health. Last month was mental health awareness month. Mental health is a topic that is rarely talked about in society until something tragic happens like the loss of an icon such as Kate Spade or in the legal defense argument of a school shooter.

A short time ago I thought in order to be successful in my endeavors I had to be working 25/8 around the clock, but that is not the case at all. In order to work efficiently, I as a creator have to take breaks to process ideas, projects or whatever is going on around me. I would have to give myself permission to live in the moment and not worry about the next detail of angle. Now I grasp that it is okay to sit back and relax or even allow yourself to mourn. Even the best of the best we’re faced with situations in which they were baffled and lost in the moment. I have come to comprehend that working without ceasing or as some say ”constantly being on the hustle” is not for me. And that’s okay.

Signing out dangerously fierce,

A 💋

How to Style Three Different Looks With One Piece of Clothing

Hey loves!

Creativity and fashion are two peas in a pod. I mix up clothing all the time to make new outfits. In order for the looks to be different something has to change in the looks. Whether it’s a minor change in accessories or a major change in footwear.

How to Style Three Different Looks With One Piece of Clothing

Outfit #1img_2570

The first time I wore this dress was for graduation and I paired it with 6 inch black wedges that had a flower that covered my toes. The gold accessories were minimal. My hairstyle was a sleek bun with a middle part.

Outfit #2

img_2856

The second time I wore this dress I was going to party. The dress was paired with sneakers. It was less dressy and more casual. I had the same accessories as the first time i sported this look the only things that changed was my hairstyle and footwear.

Outfit #3

img_3575The third time I wore this dress I was going out. I tested the waters of the t-shirt under a dress theme. The vibe is as casual as the second time I wore this dress. I wore the same sneakers, added an apple watch, and changed my hairstyle.

Spotlight May/June 2018 Featured: Current Reads

Hey loves!

Lately, I have been reading up a storm. Anything from magazines to entire novels. In the current issue of Spotlight, a whole page was dedicated to reading. Reading is a pastime that has not been in demand amongst the digital-driven world we live in. Not going to lie I haven’t always been so keen on reading. Especially since reading always felt like a chore in school.

My Current (or rereads) Reads

Pride & Prejudice

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

Jane Austen, Pride, and Prejudice

Everyone knows this novel is a classic in literature. Whether you’re reading it for a school project or just fun. The elegance of the writing and the simplistic nature of the storyline can draw just about anyone in. At times the book was dry, but for the most part I enjoyed it.

Milk & Honey

“How is it so easy for you to be kind to people he asked milk and honey dripped from my lips as i answered cause people have not been kind to me”

Rupi Kaur, Milk, and Honey

This was very popular about a year ago. It was the first ever poetry book I had ever bought and at that point, poetry had taken its grip on me. I have reread this book about two times and it is still refreshing.

The Catcher in The Rye

“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you’re all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn’t happen much, though.”

J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

I love the sarcasm of Holden it really cracks my side. I am about halfway through this book and still oozing over every word written. I swear the quote above a how I feel about this book. I am pleased to find a book like this on because it is not like traditional books. It’s a little “depressing”. What made me finally start to read this book was watching the movie Rebel in The Rye and Coming Through the Rye. Both are really terrific films that just make you want to read The Catcher in the Rye if you haven’t or either adore the book even more.

What’s The Next 5 books on My Shelfie to Read?

  1. The Fault in Our Stars
  2. The Blueprint
  3. The Confidence Code
  4. The 21 Indispensable Qualities of A Leader
  5. The 5th Wave

Spotlight May/June 2018

How I Manage to Find Inspiration For My Blog Post

Hey loves!

A blogger direct messaged (DM) me on Instagram a few days ago and asked me “how do you find constant inspiration for your blog post and magazine”. My answer to her was quite brief. A simple “I don’t know it just comes to me” I direct messaged back. Then I started to ponder her question a little longer…

I prep blog post any and everywhere no place is off limits. Whether I am in an Uber, running on the treadmill and even sometimes in the shower. Creativity and inspiration spark from the weirdest places for me. The other day inspiration struck when I was watching Mulan (I kid you not, Disney movies are the best for sparking inspiration and creativity). I watched her struggle to keep up with the other army recruits. She never once made an excuse for her incompetence due to her leak of training. She got up earlier and put in the time, work, and effort to become more suitable.

Like Mulan learned anything worth having is going to cost you: sweat, determination, hard work, and passion (a driving force). The same values are true for anything you do in life. Whether you want to start a blog, business, or simply begin a fitness journey.

How I Manage to Find Inspiration For My Blog Post

Pen to paper is always the best way to go in my opinion but when I can’t get ahold of either, the notes on my iPhone is the second best way to go. I write and write and write until I have not a thought more to give. Once the all hard work is out the way then we get to the fun stuff editing! I wasn’t always so keen on editing before I hit publish on a post. That’s until I realized editing is when the true magic comes to the surface( in my mind at least).

How to Stir Your Creative Flow in Order to Find Inspiration (Cheatsheet)

  1. Watch a movie.
  2. Go for a walk or jog to clear your mind.
  3. Play a board game.
  4. Hangout with friends or family
  5. Read a book or magazine.

After that, you should of at least have got inspiration from one thing off the list.

Spotlight May/June Double Feature Dreamers, Doers, & Achievers

Hey loves!

Paulina Santiago

I’ve been doing photography for a couple years now but not until recently have I gotten more professional about it. I would have “photoshoots” with my friends and even strangers who would pay me to take pictures with my phone. It got to the point where I didn’t feel comfortable charging and decided to invest in a beginner camera ( a Nikon D3400) Even though I take tremendous pride in my photos , I’m only beginning and this is only a beautiful side hobby I enjoy. The small amount of money I make either goes towards funding my moms chemo treatments, myself or the startup of my company. Bent not broken which is supposed to signify that even when your hit with obstacles whether it be physical or mental that you are never broken simply “bent”

I remember when I was in 9th grade I started looking at fashion blogs and thinking wow they have a blog, their own space to simply just write what they want and how they feel. At that moment I realized that I could do the same. I had tons of notebooks where I would just write about different fashion trends I liked or how to create DIY pieces of clothing. My notebooks would come and I would trash them eventually but I thought that with the internet my posts would always be there so I took all my ideas and all my notes and transferred it into blog posts. Thus my blog was born in November of 2013.

Blogging has been amazing! Not only have I learned more about myself but I also have found my sense in style and gained more confidence. I was very insecure before blogging but writing posts about my favorite outfits and trends has helped greatly. Now blogging has been hard as well. Sometimes I don’t know what to post or sometimes I feel like a post seems a little too vague to put up but I always find inspirations from other bloggers which keeps me going. The blogging community is absolutely amazing! Whether it be through my blog or other social media outlets I can always find different rays of positivity from others.

Since I have started blogging I was just posting a lot about fashion but recently I changed to fashion and lifestyle blogging in hopes to help others with high school, college, hygiene, and other topics all around. I definitely see my blog still going in this direction in years to come but I also hope that I can continue to grow my audience and reach out to new peoples.

Hilary Parr

When my college professor required us to start a blog, I never imagined that it would lead me here. I’ve been writing all my life: stories, novels, articles, social media…you name it! But I never realized it could lead to an actual job that I love.

I started Writings & Worship in the spring of 2015 for a social media class in college. I was a journalism major and it was a required class- I’m so glad it was! When W&W first started it was solely a class project but I found out that I loved it. I’m not sure why I never thought about blogging because I feel like I was born to do it. In some ways, it came naturally, and in other ways, I had to learn.

I started slowly adding in beauty posts and faith posts. I started taking time with my photography and connecting with other bloggers. I steered the content from news and editorial content to content I really care about. All of that has built W&W into what it is today. It’s been a slow process and lots of learning but I’m so proud of all my blogs progress. W&W became a place for me to share my heart, my faith, and my writing.

I will say this: numbers aren’t everything. Even after years of blogging, I still have fairly “low” numbers compared to big bloggers. But the key is I’ve been growing every day and I continue to move forward. More than that, I love what I do. Blogging has given me the opportunities to try and do so many amazing things. I’ve worked with companies I never would have imagined I would be working with and more. If you’re a new blogger and you have low numbers- keep going. Not every blog is made to be a 200K followers and views. Some blogs will be successful just being a small, encouraging blog. Keep it up, your voice matters.

When I decided I wanted to keep W&W past the class, it was because I loved what I was doing. And it was the best decision I could have made. My goal is to provide people with info, encouragement, and maybe just a few minutes of fun. Whether I’m talking about lipstick, worship songs, or life hacks- my goal is to always give my readers the best I can.

Blogging isn’t as easy as everyone assumes it is friends. It’s not all flatlays and free stuff. I work hard for my posts and I work hard for any complimentary items I review. Most of my day is spent writing a post, doing some connecting on social media, or content planning. I’m so thankful I can call this a job and hobby. I’m still not at a place that I can make a living just on blogging but maybe one day.

My longtime dream was to be known by a line. A line of fiction…or song…or anything really. I can see so many of my dreams coming true because I gave blogging a chance. Words are how I express myself, how I cope, and my biggest passion. It might not be for everyone, but it’s definitely for me.

Blogging has changed my life in so many ways! I’m more confident in my work, more outgoing to engage with new blogging friends; I can see how blogging has bettered me as a person and a creator. I’m so thankful that blogging is now such a “real job” kind of thing. I never would have imagined loving to blog this much but I do! Writings & Worship is something I’m very proud of and work hard to keep going.

Never be afraid to take a chance. You might not be as big as you want to be at first, but building a blog up takes time. Enjoy it most of all; remember to blog because it’s what you love not something you have to do.

Susanne Daniels

Blogging is a passion that I completely stumbled on but wouldn’t trade for the world! I launched my blog, Skimzey.blog; a wellness and healthy lifestyle page, in November of 2016. My intent was to create a space that I could use to educate people on being friends with their body. There are so many extremes out there at the moment and while that may suit many people, it just isn’t realistic for everyone. Health isn’t about forcing yourself to adopt a lifestyle that takes away from your quality of life, health is holistic and a completely individual and personal thing!

Before learning about the endless opportunities that come with building an online brand and community I simply viewed my blog as a credential of sorts. I dreamed of having a brick and mortar consulting business and knew that upon graduating I would need a community that believed in my mission and the purpose of what would later become my brand. You hear countless stories of people graduating from college only to struggle to find work because they don’t have the years of experience sought after by employers and even though I wasn’t seeking employment, I knew that this need for experience applied to me as well. I am a big believer in not putting off until tomorrow what you could accomplish today!

In recent months my blog has graduated from being a piece in the background of my career to being the center of my career.

It’s been a slow process overall, I’m a student and I work full time as well, so managing my time is definitely something I had to get good at!  There have certainly been many frustrations and lots of stress along the way but the feedback I have gotten from friends and family and even strangers has been the absolutely most rewarding thing in the world!

The blogging community has become something that is really close to my heart and I constantly jump at the opportunity to encourage new aspiring bloggers to make the jump and just do it! When I launched my site and published my first post, my blog was completely bare. I’m talking one feed page with one single post, but I threw myself out there for the world to see. It’s a daunting thing at first but looking back on your own progress is its own feeling of triumph!

If I could give two pieces of advice to anyone thinking of starting a blog it would have to be, done is better than perfect! You’ll get there eventually if you have the passion and drive, I promise, but you’ll never get there if you don’t start! And secondly, don’t be scared to ask for help! We’ve all been there and most if not all of us are still working and learning and growing! My mentor has been an absolute game-changer for me and knowing I have her by my side has been exactly what I needed in those days that you feel discouraged!

You can find me at @skimzey on Instagram and skimzey.blog! If you like what you see and decide to follow, please don’t hesitate to let me know how you found me, as I’ve said, I am very much still growing myself, but I love being able to support others on their journey and if I can be of assistance to you I most certainly will be!

With Love, Susanne
